Verbenaceae
A genus of about forty species of shrubs or small trees found wild in N. and Central America, E. Asia, Australia, and Malaya. The name is given in reference to the beauty of the fruits, for which the following species are mainly cultivated. Leaves opposite.
Some names used by Bean have now been superseded and are no longer familiar.
