Anthyllis

Family

Leguminosae

Three attractive shrubs belonging to this genus are cultivated in gardens – one unfortunately too tender to withstand our winters unprotected. The most distinctive botanical feature of the genus is the persistent calyx, which, after the petals fall, becomes more or less inflated and encloses the seed-pod. The flowers are aggregated in umbellate clusters. None of these shrubs needs a rich soil, but rather a warm, well-drained one, and abundant sunshine.
