A genus of about twelve species found in the drier parts of western N. America, once included in Bigelowia. The leaves of most species are aromatic and the stems of some yield a latex from which chrysil rubber is made. The heads are small, without ray-flowers, but usually united into large, showy paniculate or corymbose clusters. The involucral bracts are arranged in more or less vertical ranks, a character that distinguishes this genus from the related Haplopappus.
