The genus Cleyera, named in honour of Dr Cleyer, a Dutch botanist, is a small genus of evergreen trees and shrubs from E. Asia. The calyx is five-parted, and there are five petals with numerous stamens slightly attached. The genus is nearly allied to Eurya, but differs in having chiefly bisexual flowers, those of Eurya being unisexual and found on different trees.
