Itea japonica C.Presl

Of recent intrioduction to Kew, this is a deciduous shrub with glabrous branches. Leaves bright green, thin, between oblong and ovate, up to 5 in. long and 2[3/8] in. wide, long-acuminate, finely serrate, downy beneath, shortly stalked. Inflorescence densely flowered, up to 8 in. long. Native of Japan in Kyushu and Shikoku (and one locality of the main island).
