Oemleria Reichenbach (1841) is an overlooked earlier name for Osmaronia Greene. It is possible to override the principle of priority by conserving established generic names against earlier ones, but the proposal to do so in this instance was rejected by the committee set up by the International Botanical Congress to decide such matters. The species concerned (the genus is monotypic) was transferred to Oemleria in 1975.
Some names used by Bean have now been superseded and are no longer familiar. To ensure that all plants can be easily found, under any name, we have cross-referenced to The Plant List, a collaboration between RBG Kew, Missouri Botanical Gardens and other organisations, which aims to provide a currently accepted name for any plant.
