Rhodothamnus

Family

Ericaceae

A genus of two species bearing a superficial resemblance to some lepidote rhododendrons, but more closely allied to Phyllodoce, with which it has formed an intergeneric hybrid (see × Phyllothamnus). Another close ally is Kalmiopsis of western N. America; indeed, the relationship is so close that the only species of Kalmiopsis (K. leachiana) was transferred to Rhodothamnus by the American botanist Copeland.

From the Supplement (Vol. V)

In the older literature R. chamaecistus was sometimes stated to occur in north-east Asia. This is the result of a confusion between it and Therorhodion redowskianum, a species closely related to, and probably not distinct from, T. camtschaticum (Rhododendron camtschaticum).
