This species is described in Volume III as Orphanidesia gaultherioides Boiss. & Bal. The genus Orphanidesia is not recognised by P. F. Stevens in his authoritative survey of the Ericaceae (Bot. Journ. Linn. Soc., Vol. 64, pp. 1-53 (1971)).
